Meals on Wheels

Hawthorne Meals on Wheels is an AARP Chapter 1775 program that has served the Hawthorne community for 40+ years and is available to all residents. We are not income-based and are not subsidized in any way. We are not connected to the federal Meals on Wheels program.

Meals are only $5 each and are available for pickup and for delivery (if needed). Our weekly menu is published in the Friday clips. The menu is also posted on the Drum (Channel 98), on the Hawthorne website, and the Hawthorne AARP website. You select only the meals you want. You can order one or two meals or request ongoing daily meals. You may choose the published daily meal or a chef salad as an alternative.

Meal delivery is for you –

  • Are you just home from the hospital or rehab?
  • Have you taken a fall?
  • Are you having difficulty standing to cook? Whatever the reason, we are here to help!

Community volunteers deliver meal seven days a week to our residents who need home delivery. Meals arrive between 11:00 a.m. and noon each day. Delivery orders must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday to allow for processing and daily routing. We collect on Mondays for the previous week’s meals. We accept cash or a check made out to the HPGrill.

Meal pickup is for you –

  • Something on the menu looks good?
  • Just tired of cooking and need a break?

Meals are also available for daily pickup at the flagpole. If you are ordering meals for pickup at the flagpole, you can place your order up to 8 p.m. the evening before. You can order meals for one or two days or the whole week. Pickup meals can be paid for by the day or by the week by cash or a check made out to the HPGrill.

You have lots of options. Please see the daily menu for ordering directions.
